Spring 2009 Conference

CEdMA SPRING CONFERENCE
April 21 and 22, 2009

Hosted by NetApp

The Spring 2009 CEdMA Conference was a resounding success!  Despite a tough economy, members recognized the value of the event and came out in droves, with 55 attendees on site at the event, and 15 members attending virtually (70 total!), numbers that were in line with previous conferences.  This years conference was hosted by NetApp in Sunnyvale, CA, and Sundar Nagarathnam and his crew did an outstanding job as hosts, providing a top-notch facility, outstanding event support, and an attention to detail that helped the event run smoothly from the first day of planning to the final hours of the conference.

Every CEdMA conference has been packed with powerful and practical presentations, and the Spring 2009 conference was no exception, with the following topics presented:

  • Pulse of the Industry:  Virtual Training
  • Gearing Down without Shutting Down - A Primer for Troubled Times
  • Rethinking Certification
  • Making the Conversion from ILT to Enhanced Blended Learning
  • The Great Debate - Should Training be a Profit Center or Cost Recovery Center?
  • Just Two Questions?  Introducing the Net Promoter Score
  • It's 10:30am - Do You Know Where Your Educational Material Really Is?
  • Aligning Training with the New Product Introduction
  • Delivering Successful Business Cases
  • Standards Open Forum - Mighty Metrics
  • Developing Course Material for Successful Virtual Classroom Delivery

We had seasoned presenters adding to their years of experience, and we had members making their first presentations to the CEdMA membership.  There was lively discussion, good natured debate, and plenty of invaluable opportunities to network with peers.

But you don't have to take my word for it!  What did our members have to say?

  • "Best CEdMA event I have ever attended; very focused on the business of training and treating training as a product.  Great job selecting topics."
  • "Excellent - well worth my time away from the office."
  • "Really enjoyed every minute of it.  Such a great experience to be around peers and those who have such passion for training!"
  • "The speakers held my interest, and each had a very entertaining and informative style. There was an abundance of useful information for me."
  • "Very pertinent topics for our current state of the business/practice.  Thanks!"
  • "The benefit of hearing from others in similar situations and encountering similar obstacles (and how we all get past them) is priceless."

Of course some of the feedback was more constructive in nature, and we're taking a close look at it all as we prepare for the fall conference and continue to try make each and every conference better and better.  If you attended in the spring, then thank you for helping to make the event what it was.  If not, then don't pass up your next opportunity - the event will be even better with you there!
